One thing God cannot do...that you can

Titus 1:2--in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.

The other day my sons asked me questions about the Lord's return, wondering how and when He would come again.  At the root of their questioning was one main thought: If God can do anything, couldn't He return differently than He said He would in the Bible?  How would you answer such a question?  Can't God do anything?  The answer is yes....and no.  Let me explain.

Limits on the limitless.  Since God is, well, God He can do as He pleases; create what He wants, destroy what He wants, do what He wants.  But in all His limitlessness, He has assured us that He will not, no, cannot lie.  It is not in His nature.  God is Truth.  John 17:17 says, "Sanctify them by Your truth.  Your word is truth."  Why does that matter?

All His promises are true.  II Corinthians 1:20 says, "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us."  Understanding that God cannot lie allows us to fully trust in His Word and the promises that are contained therein.  Stand upon the promises found in God's word, allowing them to sanctify and encourage your body, soul and spirit.  Here is a list of just a few:

Nothing is able to separate the believer from the love of God--Romans 8:38-39
Sin shouldn't have dominion over the believers' life, you've been set free--Rom. 6:14, John 8:36
You can partake of His divine nature--II Peter 1:4
He will give you rest--Matthew 11:28-30
He will supply all your needs--Philippians 4:19
We can have true peace--John 14:27
You can be saved and know it--Rom. 10:9-10
     Salvation is free--Rom. 6:23

May you be blessed as you wholly trust in His word and the promises you find therein.
